UTI Symptoms but a Negative Test Result? How the Pelvic Floor Plays a Role

Have you ever had all of the symptoms of a UTI but when getting it cultured, there was no evidence of bacteria?

The pelvic floor can be the culprit!

Tense pelvic floor muscles can create sensations like:

  • Urethral burning

  • Incomplete bladder emptying

  • Constant urge to go to the bathroom

  • Difficulty starting a stream

  • Spraying with urination

Other signs of a tense pelvic floor:

  • Pain with tampon insertion, intercourse, pap smears

  • Constipation

  • Skinny poops

  • Pelvic pain

  • TMJ dysfunction/ neck pain

Learn how to release a tight pelvic floor with assistance from a pelvic floor physical therapist. They will teach you techniques such as:

  • Breathing techniques

  • Internal and external pelvic floor muscle releases

  • Myofascial Release

  • Pelvic Floor stretches

  • Nervous System downtraining (relaxation)

  • Etc. depending on your individual needs

Why would we take antibiotics for an infection that doesn't exist? Antibiotics are not great for our gut health for frequent or long term use. If you have signs of pelvic floor dysfunction and no evidence of an infection, seek out a pelvic floor PT to get rid of these pesky symptoms for good!
